World Elephant Day is here! (August 12, 2023)

Pachyderms, among the smartest, most unique mammals in the world need our reverence, protection, and admiration, not our cruelty and mistreatment. Do not support those who harm elephants, either by hunting, or ecological destruction, or through the use of elephants for rides, selfies, and other things that they, as any other animal should not be subject to.

A couple of thoughts

In the past, I have written in detail about how we can help elephants. For today, I would like

Admire elephants from far away, photograph them from far away, and make sure they last generations across the centuries so you and yours may be able to enjoy their company.

Engage in Fair Trade that will make elephants safe among the communities they engage with. Mr. Ellie Pooh’s Handmade Recycle Paper is an excellent example. You can find them here:

Captive Elephants and Zoochosis: Across the planet, elephants are subject to cruelty and torture. One of the worst forms of course, is when they are trapped in zoos and are forced to engage in performances that are at crossroads to their very nature.

Among the worst are zoos, and here is one – the Kansas City Zoo, where elephants are housed in such tight quarters, they suffer from injuring each other due to aggression. Here is a petition that I urge you to sign:

Not all petitions work, but some do. Where there is hope, we cannot back down. We have the voice that elephants, other animals, and plants don’t have. We have to use that voice and be as loud as we ought to be.

Until next time.
