World Octopus is here!

It turns out, almost everyone’s favorite Cephalopods, the octopi have a day that celebrates them, and it is also the day that since 2007 has kicked off five days of Cephalopod Awareness Days. Different cephalopods are celebrated in these days, including one for your friendly, neighborhood Kraken!  October 8 is World Octopus Day, and that day and the next four are Cephalopod Awareness Days, all owing to The Octopus News Magazine Online.

Octopi are very famous for not only being intelligent but also being quite naughty! Octopuses (also correct) are known for their extremely creative escapades that involve escapes from captivity!

But, there’s more! Years ago, I joined several thousands of people in learning about some exciting research where they captured an octopus using coconut shells to and their suction-enabled pods to build a lair for itself!  This makes them the first invertebrate known to use a tool. Tool usage is indeed a sign of intelligence beyond instincts.

In the larger analysis, it should not be surprising as they have significantly developed brains with quite a number of neurons. It is also possible that on certain water-borne planets like ours, octopi might actually be the dominant living organism! On our planet, they indeed are an exciting addition to our biodiversity! A couple of links are referenced below to get you started.

So, let us take this day learning about octopi, and the next five days learning about all cephalopods!
