The World Sparrow Day, observed annually and globally on March 20 would appear to be a more recent designation. Its designation came via the Nature Forever Society of India and the Eco-Sys Action Foundation of France in 2010 per a perusal of the internet. Sparrows, like many other species are being threatened nearly globally, to varying degrees. Every day, the Anthropocene Era sees those threats and their dire consequences come to completely unavoidable but unbridled conclusion.
Sparrows, those diminutive song birds are a critical part of the ecology, especially since modernization, in urban settings. The least of their functions is to constitute the bridge between urbanization and the rapidly diminishing natural environment in which we used to grow up. There are now new dangers besides the classics (yes, sadly, now many threats to nature are permanent), such as pollution and loss of habitat.
The H1N5 virus, known as Bird Flue or Avian Influenza is wreaking havoc across various species of animals, and particularly birds. In this time, it is important to think of the birds and help them in every possible, including following the recommendation of your health agencies.
Long live the sparrows!
